You have one year to complete your NCAS referral, from the date that NCAS processes your referral to the date you complete your final assessment component.
The CBA and SLA-OA must be completed within six months of each other. If six months is exceeded, the CBA will need to be retaken at full cost. This is because the NCAS assessment evaluates competencies and knowledge at a specific point in time: the more time that lapses, the less valid the results.
To schedule an NCAS assessment, we must have received and processed your referral from a relevant regulatory college or registry.
Computer-based Assessment: The CBA is administered by Prometric at their testing centres across Canada and around the world. Once you have paid the CBA assessment fee, you will be sent a link to Prometric's online scheduling tool and can self-schedule, choosing from a range of dates and testing centre locations nearest you.
Simulation Lab & Oral Assessment: SLA-OA assessments in Maritime Canada take place at the NCAS Assessment Centre, located within the Centre for Collaborative Learning and Research at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
To schedule your SLA-OA, you must pay the SLA-OA assessment fee first. Once fees are received, you will be contacted by NCAS directly to book your SLA-OA date.
It is recommended that you do not make any travel arrangements until you have scheduled your CBA and/or SLA-OA assessments.
SLA-OA assessments are offered on Saturdays only. The calendar for available SLA-OA dates is typically released about 2-4 months at a time. This allows NCAS to build a schedule that best meets Assessment Taker need.

You may reschedule your CBA up to 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session by visiting prometric.com and paying the applicable administrative fee.
If you wish to cancel or reschedule your CBA within 48 hours of your scheduled assessment date, please contact email@example.com. Fees apply.

The NCAS SLA-OA has limited daily capacity, and once scheduled, an SLA-OA spot has been reserved for you. Short notice rescheduling or cancellation may deprive another candidate of the opportunity to take the exam, and historically NCAS has had significant financial penalties in place to discourage this. However, in the context of COVID-19, NCAS is prioritizing Assessment Taker and Staff health and safety, and many of these fees have been relaxed.
At this time, we are allowing rescheduling up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled SLA-OA, though we appreciate as much notice as possible so we can attempt to schedule another Assessment Taker in your place. Please note that it may take 2-4 months to reschedule your SLA-OA.

Like all of us, Prometric and NCAS are monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19 and following regional health ordinances closely.
Should either Prometric or NCAS be required to close or reduce capacity at our Assessment Centre at any time, all Assessment Takers will be notified as soon as possible. CBA assessments will be rescheduled by Prometric within a few days, according to test centre availability. SLA-OA assessments will require placement on a prioritized waitlist for when we are able to resume SLA-OA assessments.
Please note that NCAS will not be responsible for any Assessment Taker travel expenses in the event of an Prometric Testing Centre or NCAS Assessment Centre closure.
